Mario Vuksan, CEO of ReversingLabs present "The Art & Science of File Reputation" at the IBM Cyber Breakfast on Feb 5.
Malicious attacks are continually evolving and increasing in volume, sophistication and variation. Traditional AV products cannot kept up as attackers find new ways to target organizations and individuals with attacks that are either broad-based or target a specific industry such as Financial Services. While organizations must continually monitor, adjust and retool their defenses, attackers often use economies of scale and efficiencies, most notably by only making simple changes to existing, well-used payloads to elude detection.
Among the latest innovative trends to breach multiple systems are software supply-chain style attacks. By compromising products signed by trusted vendors, attackers are introducing malicious content into networks. Recent incidents include MeDoc, NotPetya and CCleaner by Avast. Organizations need better ways to hunt all traffic on their networks to identify the myriad of attacks presenting from file payloads...ultimately most attacks end up with a file being opened and its payload enabled to wreak havoc inside the infrastructure, either immediately or to lie in wait.
In this session, ReversingLabs Founder and CEO, Mario Vuksan will share insights into how these attacks operate, how they are impacting organizations, and how they are likely to morph going forward. Mario will also discuss short-comings of current AV, IDS and Dynamic Analysis solutions in being able to identify these attacks and how automated static analysis, file functional similarity and deep YARA hunting can help get ahead of the attacks.
AI coding is a big security problem when most security teams are still relying on tools designed for a world where human-written code remains prevalent.
